The city of Dehradun has some of the popular institutions in the country which caters for a variety of public services for the state and the nation. Among these is the Forest Research Institute which was established in the year 1906 under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE). The FRI is now a Deemed University catering for excellent research in the field of scientific forestry for the Indo-Gangetic plains of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Western U.P. and U.P. Himalayas.
The main building was designed by C.G. Blomfield with great Greeko Roman Architecture and inaugurated in 1929. It is still mind boggling to see how the beautiful building was resurrected in those times in a lush green area covering 450 hectares.
