There are a number of ways one can get to Dehradun and the simplest and the easiest method is to reach by road. This is also one of the cheapest methods so if you are concerned about your pockets then choose this method of commuting.
How to reach Dehradun by Bus
One can catch a number of buses that move round the clock for transport of people from one city to the other. There are various state owned government buses that one could catch to reach Dehradun. These may include the various deluxe buses known as Volvo coach if you have the budget. These might be bit costly but the services provided by these luxury buses are really awesome with the kind of cosy seats to sit and lay down for a relaxed journey. So if you have the budget then what could be better than these or otherwise if you have a tight pocket then catch up the interstate normal buses that would take you at a very reasonable pricing to Dehradun.
The ticket price and bus fare will be approximate INR 200 for ordinary buses, INR 300 for semi deluxe and around rupees 550 for the luxury Volvo ones if you are catching these buses from Delhi where you could easily get these from ISBT Kashmiri Gate Bus Station. You might take a travel time of about 6 hrs to reach the Dehradun city during the night but the day travel could be longer depending on the traffic rush and which might be 8 to 9 hrs.
How to reach Dehradun by Taxi or Cab
One can also book the cab or taxi from their locations to get to the amazing tourist place of Dehradun. The route followed by the taxis are almost the same as the local or state buses but it might happen that due to the traffic rush the driver may take you from another road way and via a different direction. This mode of journey gives you the ease of stopping at few places of your choice while on the drive to refresh yourself in hotels all along the road sides or otherwise.
Driving Directions to Reach Dehradun by Road
- Starting from Delhi you would be moving to south east and then to the Deen Dayal Marg. You would then move on to the NH24 via the Indraprastha and Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
- After travelling you would then come on to the Merut Bypass and National Highway 58. Continuing along this road you will reach the Saharanpur road SH 59.
- Travelling further you will reach the NH 73 from where you could turn to NH 72A which would lead you to the Saharanpur Chowk from where you could get to the Dehradun city centre.
